Highlights
For over a century, we've worked hard to consistently improve our sustainable efforts. 2010 was no different. We continued to invest in greener shipping solutions and more efficient logistics networks to better serve our customers. We focused on providing opportunities for employee growth and donated time and resources to communities and organizations in need, helping drive positive change in our industry and across the globe.
See below for a quick look at some of the ways UPS continued to lead sustainability in 2010.
Achievements:
- Total investment in training was more than $325 million, with 54% of the total devoted to safety training.
- Promoted 1,168 employees to management.
- Became the first small-package carrier to offer a carbon neutral service for deliveries within the United States.
- Inducted 1,135 drivers into the "Circle of Honor" for 25 years without an avoidable accident — the largest one-year increase ever.
- UPS immediately committed more than $1 million in cash and in-kind support for the Haitian relief effort.
- Announced as the Official Logistics and Express Delivery Supporter of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
- Provided employment to 400,600 people around the world.
- Achieved a 6.1 percent emissions reduction in our Transportation Index, exceeding our Climate Leaders goal for the year.
- Local non-profit organizations around the world received more than 1.2 million hours of volunteer time from UPS employees.
